LIL' BEAMERS AT WORK It doesn't seem possible, but the years have flown by and many of our Moon Babies are now old enough to be doing more than just amusing their owners with their silly antics. I have put together some pictures of these working Beamers, their dams, baby pictures and what they are doing now.

"Rascal" (gee we wonder why Alanna calls him that ?) is now a five year old and will compete in his first CTR this spring. He is 15.3 and stout built. The Texas Trail Challenge was Rascal's introduction into the world of CTR, he did well and more importantly, seemed to enjoy all aspects of camping and CTR.

"Honey" is gathering experience as a trail horse, has participated in several clinics and was even chosen to be a clinicians demo horse at a large Equine Affair after only having been under saddle for a short time.

"Rosie" my stunning palomino princess, has become my trail horse, loves to camp and experience new places. She is comfortable away from home and trailers great. I couldn't ask for a better young mare, her gaits are wonderful, and has her daddies temperament.....spoiled rotten.

" Too Much " , hmmm, another one of those telling names.....has started his driving carrer and has now been hitched to the cart and is doing great. Saddle training will come this year.
"Sugar" is a gorgeous golden palomino (picture here is in her light winter coat) and has started her new life in the Texas Hill Country exploring the trails. Her sweet temperament and beautiful expression wins everyone's heart.
From Rascal's owner.... "I took Rascal to a “Trail Challenge” this past weekend. It is a one day event, 10 miles (challenging Hill Country terrain) with multiple judged obstacles along the way. Rascal camped great, went down the trail calmly, wasn’t freaked by the big crowd of horses (86!), was very sure footed, didn’t get tired out (we pleasure rode another 7 miles on Sunday), listened well, etc. I was VERY pleased. We didn’t place well, but scored 89 out of 100 and most of the lost points were my fault. I am very much excited about his first CTR in June. I think he will do great! Most importantly, I think he really had fun! "
From Kathy..... " Honestly Elizabeth, Jet's a pain in EVERYONE'S a&*#. Now I will never admit this in public and if you try to repeat it I will deny it, but I think I am really really going to like riding Jet. He is not spooky, is curious and playful, and gaited to the max. Plus he is just the right size for me. We ground drove him today for the first time with no problem then I got on him in the ring with no problem. I've been on him in the round pen before and it went fine, but the ring is much bigger and more could go wrong, but it didn't. We mostly walked, but went over and around and thru things working in a side pull. Plus "whoa." I like whoa. I like a really good whoa on a horse! But I will flat out deny this if you try to tell anyone or throw it back at me someday. "
"Jet" is a typical Moon child, into EVERYTHING with a great sense of humor. The letter below was obviously intended for me, but, yes, I do have permission to place it here. ;O) Five years ago Kathy had two mares to breed, she bred one mare to Moon and the other to a different stallion (not a MFT) Since then we have been comparing the foals, and Jet has always made training easy, vetting easy, just very accepting of most everything. Not so with the other colt. So I have taken every opportunity to rub it in that BOTH mares should have been bred to Moon. Jet was *supposed* to be Dave's horse, but Kathy has stolen him for herself, and Dave had to go get himself another Moon son. CLICK HERE TO SEE DAVE'S NEW lil' BEAMER
UPDATE ! RASCAL TURNS COWY AND IS A PARADE HORSE !!
"Rascal and I took a 3 day beginning working cow horse clinic week end before last. He did awesome! We were very lucky to have just 3 of us working with the clinician all 3 days, I took Rascal because Red (QH) scratched himself up the day before on a trail ride. Rascal has been afraid of cows (about the only thing he IS afraid of), so I wasn’t expecting much more than some desensitization. By the end, he was not only tracking and rating a calf, he was ears pinned ‘I’m gonna getcha”! He did a couple of pretty rollbacks, too. Did I ever tell y’all, I love my horse!! Thanks again for the millionth time! Alanna
Rascal got to try out a new job last Sat. as a parade horse in the "biggest all horse parade in the world", the Stock Show parade in Fort Worth. There were hundred and hundreds of horses wagons, mules, minis pulling carts, you name it. Also marching bands. The entrance up to the parade route in the middle of the city is a long uphill bridge. Then you are truly in the city, among the sky scrapers and thousands of spectators. He was SOOOO good! I always said I would never do a parade, so many spooky things and so many ways for a horse to get hurt or hurt somebody. But I just knew Rascal could do it. There was a short stretch, about 2/3 of the way through where I had to take up the slack in the reins, but other than that he was perfect! I cannot even begin to describe the thousands of horse spooking objects we encountered. It really helped that we rode with my neighbor, Becky, whose mustang Thief of Hearts has done the parade twice before. So one more item on Rascal's resume. He will be my mount as a clinician for a CTR clinic in LA in March, do a CTR in April, May and June. In the Fall we will probably try our first 25 mile endurance ride. Gotta love those versatile Moon babies! Alanna and Rascal
